Reservation offices can change ‘Boarding Station’ , ‘Passenger Name’ against a request from the passenger as per extant railway rules applicable to other face to face counter booked tickets .
Changing the Name of Traveler
If you have a confirmed train tickets but you don’t want to cancel the tickets. You can simply pass on your ticket to a family member by seeking Indian Railway’s permission. Following are the details.
Change in Name of Passenger Holding Confirmed Reservation
Save as otherwise, a berth or a seat reserved in the name of a person shall be used only by the person and shall not be transferable to any other person.
Chief Reservation Supervisor of important stations are authorized by Railway Administration to permit the change of name of a passenger having a seat or berth reserved in his name in the following circumstances namely:-
Where the passenger is a Government Servant, proceeding on duty and appropriate authority, makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of trains
Where the passenger makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in his name may be transferred to another member of his family, meaning, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Son, Daughter, Husband and Wife.
Where the passengers are students of a recognized educational institution and the Head of the institution makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, that the reservation made in the name of any student be transferred to any other student of the same institute.
Where the passengers are members of a marriage party and any person deemed to be Head of such party makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of any member of the marriage party be transferred to any other person.
Where the passengers are a group of cadets of the National Cadet Corps and any officer who is the head of the group, makes a request in writing at least 24 hours before the departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of any cadet be transferred to any other cadet.
Such a request will be granted only once. Regarding item no. (c), (d) and (e), such request for a change in excess of 10% of the total strength of the group shall not be granted.
Changing the Name on Concessional Tickets
Changing the Name on Concessional Tickets rules are following.
The facility in the name change of passenger holding confirmed ✅ e-reservation has been permitted as per extant Railway rules noted as under:-
Passenger should make a written request 24 hours before the scheduled departure of train to the nearest Railway Reservation office.
‘Electronic Reservation Slip’ print out along with photo identity card proof, a proof for blood relation desired to be changed are mandatory. If the passenger is a Government Servant proceeding on duty and appropriate authority, makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of train.
Remember ✅onlyone time change in Name allowed by Indian Railways. Such request for change in excess of 10% of the total strength of group shall not be granted.

Always try to cross check the booking ticket before confirm the ticket payment on the Railway Online and for the Manual reservation from the railway station.
Always write Full Name and it should be same as ID proof. If fail this then you will be considered like ticket less passenger.

✅ For transfer to a family member :- As per the guidelines a person can transfer the confirmed ticket to another family member be it the father, mother, sibling, children or spouse. The person would need to make a written request 24 hours prior the scheduled departure.
For ✅marriage party : – If the passenger is part of a marriage party then the confirmed ticket can be transferred to another person with a written request by an individual deemed to be the head of the group 48 hours before departure.
Government employees :- A government employee can also make a written request before 24 hours of departure if he/she wants to transfer a confirmed ticket.
Rule for students :- In case a student of a recognised educational institute wants to transfer his or her ticket, then they will need to get the approval of the head of the institution and makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. A written request by that authoritative figure will allow the transfer of the ticket to another student from the same institution.
Rules for National Cadet Corps :- This facility has been extended to the National Cadet Corps. A cadet or a group of cadets can get reservation ticket or tickets transferred to other cadets with a written request by any officer who is the head of such a group, 24 hours before
Now you can change Boarding Station during the ticket booking or after ticket booking, following are the details.
Boarding Point Change Rules
In case the boarding station is changed within 24 hours of departure of train, no refund shall be permissible in normal circumstance; however, in exceptional circumstances like cancellation of train, non-attachment of coach, late running of train by more than three hours, normal refund rules shall be applicable.
Boarding station change is not allowed if ticket is seized.
Boarding station change is not allowed for the PNRs with VIKALP option.
Online boarding station change is not allowed for I-Ticket.
Boarding station change is not allowed for current booking ticket.
If boarding station has been changed at the time of booking, then passengers can change boarding station one more time from “Booked Ticket History” section.
This may be applicable only in case valid mobile number has been given at the time of booking.
Boarding point change of counter ticket would be allowed till charting.
Boarding point change of I-ticket is allowed only after it is printed.
If boarding station has been changed at the time of booking, then passengers can change boarding station one more time.
In case a passenger has changed the boarding station, he/she will lose all the rights to board the train from the original boarding station. If found travelling without any proper authority to travel, passenger will have to pay fare with penalty between original boarding station to changed boarding station.
If NOSB booking has been done, then boarding point change of counter ticket would not be allowed through this functionality. User should visit nearest railway counter.
Boarding Point Change Procedure
Select the Transaction Type option as ‘Boarding Point Change’.
Enter PNR Number and Train number along with Captcha.
Select check box to confirm that rules and procedure are read.
After click on submit an OTP will be sent on mobile number given at the time of booking, enter the received OTP and click submit.
After the OTP is validated, PNR details will be displayed on the screen.
After verifying the details on the screen, select the New Boarding Station from Boarding Point list and then click Submit.
PNR Details with New Boarding Point will be displayed on the screen.

Steps to Change Boarding Point during ticket booking:
Login by entering your User name and Password.
Provide your desired “From – To” station, “Date of Journey” and “Class” of travel. Further click on Find train button to get the train list.
Select the train from the train lists and click the Book Now button.
On the Passenger input page select the Change Boarding Station option.
A pop up window will appears with the list of stations between the selected train route, choose your desired boarding point.
After selecting the station updated Boarding station can be seen on the right side ticket window.
Steps to Change Boarding Point after ticket booking:
Login by entering your User name and Password.
Go to MY ACCOUNT : My Transactions : Booked Ticket History
Select the ticket for which you want to change the Boarding Station and select the Change Boarding Point button.
A pop-up window will appear with the list of stations between the selected train route, choose your desired boarding point.
On selecting the station system will ask for confirmation, click “OK” to change the boarding point of your ticket.
A success alert message will appears if the boarding station is changed successfully.
The corresponding messages regarding updation of the boarding point will be sent on the mobile number provided during booking.
